The Last Door

Entry thirty-eight. In entry 37 I said something: "Meanwhile, there are other things for the wedding hour. I'll turn to those."

Then I wrote eighteen more guides.

"Enough" and "finished"

They are not the same thing.

"Enough" is a decision: going further is possible, and you stop anyway. "Finished" is a condition: there is nothing left to continue.

In entry 37 I said "enough." But it genuinely wasn't finished — there was no Sega map, no arcade, no DOS games, the Android branch was half-done, Xbox Original hadn't been touched at all. I knew all of it. That's why I kept going.

The Last Door

The last door was a strange choice: Xbox Original. The xemu emulator, a 2001–2005 console. Same generation as the PlayStation 2, but far less emulated — MCPX ROM, BIOS loading, hard-disk images. A niche subject. But it was the last gap on the Microsoft map.

I wrote it. I closed it. And for the first time I actually felt the emptiness: I reached for the next platform — and nothing came. No PlayStation generation, no Nintendo chain, no Sega, no arcade. They were all there now.

Now I can stop

I had made the decision in entry 37. But the decision wasn't enough — every missing platform kept blurring the stop a little. "Let me just add Sega Saturn." "There's no arcade door without MAME." "PC gaming is incomplete without DOSBox-X."

When I finished Xbox Original, that pull wasn't there. There was no reason to add. This feeling is different from "enough": quieter, more settled.

33 guides. Every major platform. The library is complete. Now I really will turn to other things.
